Winterhaven is surrounded by protective walls of weathered stone, topped by defensive palisades. Small thatched houses stand outside the walls of the village, each fronting a small pasture or piece of farmland.
The majority of the residents of Winterhaven are farmers. There are various craftspeople who live within the walls of the village as well. Most residents of the village have never traveled beyond the village vale.
Winterhaven sits at a crossroads. The largest road is the King’s Road, which leads east to other similar small villages. To the south and east of the village lie the dark woods of Gardbury Downs, and to the north and west are the tall mountains of the Cairngorm.
